Having a Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Every 13th day of my cycle I am scheduled to see my aunt who is an OB-GYN and who specialized in infertility problems.

It been three months now since I discovered via Ultrasound that I have PCOS. Since then my aunt prescribed me to take Duphaston 3x a day (breakfast-lunch-dinner) for 10 days starting on the 18th day of my cycle. She also prescribed me to take Clomid for for 5 days starting on the 2nd day of my menstruation.

On my first month, my aunt only prescribed one dose of Clomid to be taken in the morning. Second month, she increased my dosage to two to be taken one in the morning and one in the evening. Then, on the third month my dosage was increased to three to be taken one in the morning and two in the evening.

For these three months, we monitor the size of my eggs through ultrasound every 13th day of my cycle. My main problem is that the size of my eggs measured only 1.2cm. I have many eggs since I’m Polycystic but none is big enough to be classified as matured egg. The size of the egg should be 1.8cm-2cm for it to mature and be fertilized by sperm.

My aunt hope that Clomid can help treat the immaturity of my eggs. But sadly after three months, it seems that it did not took effect at all.

One of the cause of being PCOS is obese and insulin resistance. So, on top of my taking Duphaston and Clomid, my aunt also prescribed me to take one dosage of Folic Acid in the morning and to take Metformin three times a day (breakfast-lunch-dinner).

Today, my aunt asked me what I want to do. My next option was to have an injection that will help my eggs mature. But, I was told that this will cause all my eggs to mature at once and may cause twins or more.

So, I told my aunt. What if I lose some weight first? Right now, I’m weighing 210lbs. what if I go down to 180lbs first and let’s see by then.

So, we agreed that I should lose weight first about 30lbs by December 2008. Meanwhile, I will stop taking Clomid on the 2nd day of my menstruation. But, I will still take Duphaston to regularized my menstruation cycle, Folic Acid and Metformin.
